Graphmark

Mind maps saved as Markdown

Coming soon macOS Free
A Graphmark mind map for planning a product launch, with six coloured branches around a central topic.

Graphmark is a mind-map editor for the Mac that saves every map as a Markdown file. Each branch is a line in a nested list, so a map you make in Graphmark opens as readable text in Obsidian, in any text editor and in the AI tools you work with, and a Markdown outline you already have opens in Graphmark as a map.

Maps that stay yours

  • Every map is a plain Markdown file on your Mac. Layout and colours are kept in a small companion file beside it, so the Markdown stays clean.
  • Open a note from an Obsidian vault as a map. Wikilinks keep working, and links between maps take you from one map to the next.
  • Open MindNode documents and backups, and bring in your own MindNode themes.
  • Copy a branch as Markdown, PDF or PNG, and paste Markdown to add branches.

Write in the map

  • Type to add a branch, Tab for a child, Return for a sibling. Drag to rearrange.
  • Bold, italics and links appear as formatting in the map; the Markdown that stores them stays in the file.
  • Add notes, tags, checkboxes, pictures and labelled connections between any two branches.
  • The document pane beside the map shows the same file as text, formatted as you type. Find searches the whole map.

Layout that arranges itself

  • Six orientations, from a classic mind map that grows both ways to stems that grow in one direction.
  • Large groups of branches are arranged to stay compact and readable, and you can place a branch freely when you want it somewhere else.
  • Fold a branch to hide what you are not working on.

Designed for the Mac

  • Ten themes for light and dark appearance, and a theme editor. Each map keeps its own styling, so changing a theme later does not restyle maps you already made.
  • Full keyboard control, the standard Mac menus and text commands, and VoiceOver support for the map itself.
  • Graphmark works offline and keeps your documents on your Mac.

Part of Lakoy

Graphmark is one of the Lakoy apps, which keep your work in Markdown so it can move between tools and people, and between you and the AI you choose to use. Markant, the Lakoy Markdown reader, opens the same files.
