Themes and the theme editor

Open the inspector (⌥⌘I) and choose the Theme tab. The row of pictures at the top is the list of themes; click one to apply it. The settings below the row change the current map’s styling, and every change can be undone with ⌘Z.

The themes

Graphmark comes with ten themes: Default, Paper, Ink, Blueprint, Console, Graphite, Ledger, Roster, Signal and Studio. Each has a light and a dark appearance. The row scrolls sideways to show them all, followed by any themes of your own.

The menu next to the Theme heading chooses between the light and dark appearance: Automatic follows macOS, or choose Light or Dark.

Hold the pointer over a theme to see who made it, which appearance it was designed for, and whether it came with Graphmark or is yours.

Each map keeps its own styling

When you pick a theme, Graphmark copies the whole theme into the map’s companion file. Later changes to a theme, whether made by you or by a Graphmark update, do not change maps that already use it. To bring a map up to date with a theme, click the theme again.

A map you have never styled stores no theme at all.

Change the styling of one map

The settings under the row edit the theme as this map uses it: the canvas colour, the branch colours, the type for each level of the map, node shapes and borders, and the marks used for tasks, folded branches and connections. The changes are saved with the map and do not affect other maps.

To style a single branch instead, select it and use the Style tab.

Save your own theme

  • Save the current settings as a new theme: click the + tile, labelled Save, at the end of the row. The new theme appears in the row, already selected, and you can use it in other maps.
  • Update one of your own themes: after you change its settings in a map, an Update row appears under the themes. Click it to write the changes into the theme. It appears only when there is something to update.
  • Manage a theme: Control-click its picture for Duplicate, Export… and Share…, and for your own themes Rename, Reveal in Finder and Move to Trash. Duplicate works on the themes that come with Graphmark too, so you can start from one of them.

Theme files

Your themes are text files with the extension .graphmarktheme, which you can send to other people or edit in a text editor. To add one you have received, click Themes Folder… at the bottom of the Theme tab and choose Import Theme…. Reveal Themes Folder in the same menu shows where your themes are kept.

The same Import Theme… command reads MindNode themes. See Opening MindNode documents and themes.
