Pictures
Drag a picture onto a branch, or select a branch and paste a picture with ⌘V. Graphmark stores the picture as a file and refers to it from the map.
Add a picture
- Drag a picture from the Finder, or straight out of another app, onto a branch. The branch is highlighted when the picture can be dropped.
- Paste a copied picture or screenshot onto the selected branch with ⌘V.
Graphmark accepts PNG, JPEG, GIF, HEIC, TIFF, WebP, BMP and PDF files. A pasted picture without a file name is saved as a PNG.
Where pictures are kept
In a Graphmark package, pictures are stored inside the package, so the map and its pictures travel as one file.
In a Markdown map, pictures are saved as files in a folder beside the map, and the Markdown refers to them with a relative path, such as . Obsidian and other Markdown editors show them the same way.
Choose the folder in Graphmark > Settings > General, under Pictures:
| Setting | Where a picture goes, for a map called mindmap.md |
|---|---|
| Beside the document | Next to the map: diagram.png |
| In a subfolder | A folder named from a pattern. The default {name}_assets gives mindmap_assets/diagram.png. Remove {name} from the pattern to use one shared folder. |
| In a folder | A folder you name, relative to the map. The default is attachments. |
The settings window shows where a picture would go with the current choice. Keep the folder inside the map’s own folder: Graphmark shows pictures from the map’s folder and the folders inside it, and a picture in a folder above the map does not appear. The setting applies to pictures you add from now on; pictures already in a map stay where they are.
Move pictures out of the file
If Graphmark cannot write to the map’s folder, for example because you declined folder access, it keeps the picture inside the Markdown file itself. A picture stored this way works, but it makes the file large and slow to edit in other apps.
To move such pictures into the folder beside the map, choose File > Move Pictures Beside the File…. Each picture is saved as a file named after its branch, and the map is updated to refer to it. A picture that cannot be written stays where it was, so none is lost. ⌘Z undoes the whole move.
The command is available only when the map contains pictures stored inside the file.
